| | | In the article analyzes еру retrospective of the contradictions related to the countries in the Arctic region, discusses the current state of territorial claims of circumpolar states, and establishes that the key unresolved issue remains the dispute between Russia, Canada, Denmark and Norway about the boundaries of the continental shelf outside their 200-mile zones. An important role in resolving existing contradictions will be played by the conclusion of the UN Commission based on the results of consideration of applications submitted by these countries. It should be noted that the border issue between the United States and Canada in the Beaufort Sea remains unresolved, as well as the United States’ demands on Denmark to purchase Greenland. The purpose of this article is to analyze the historical retrospective of the use of Arctic resources by countries of the world, as well as to identify contradictions that have influenced the current state and prospects for economic relations among the countries in the Arctic region. In author uses international legal documents related to the territorial claims made by the countries in the Arctic region and discusses problems of security and environmental protection of the Arctic region, such as: the international agreement of the Paris Peace Conference (1920), the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982), the Ilulissat Declaration (2008), etc. The author relies on the provisions and conclusions made in the scholarly literature focusing on the existing contradictions in the circumpolar countries. | | Key words: Arctic, contradictions of circumpolar countries, principle of sectoral division, UN Convention on the Law of the Sea | | Pages: 28 - 31 |
